Probably the most stressful part in our preparation has been the quest for an insurance. All insurers are keen to cover a multi million yacht that remains in the marina all year; only few companies are willing to help us fulfill our intrepid dream, and insure this old lady, that has been prepared so meticulously for this trip over the last years.
If all things go as planned, Monara will leave Antwerp on the morning tide on July 3rd, 2021. Depending on the weather, and how the UK welcomes us in these challenging Covid times, our first stops could be Holy Island, Kirkwall, the capital of the Orkney Isles or Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis and Harris, or all three...
July should bring us all the way to Iceland, August is reserved for Greenland.
Traveling with Monara should be relaxing, with time for good food, inspiring discussions, books long postponed, good music and an overwhelming nature around us! Our trip around the world is a family project, we do not charter, but friends do come along happily!
Preparing Monara for this trip has been a combination of sweat to get the boat ship shape, of time to browse for solutions (thx Google!), of talking to people, following blogs of travelers and of course some money got involved. We never received any goodies for free, the companies that we mention in our mails did help us out, we are grateful for their input and might save others some search time.
